The Embassy of India in Paramaribo organized a trade promotion event- India means Business- focused on Food Processing, Pharma, Bilateral trade and Investment opportunities (including for Overseas Citizens of India) at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on Tuesday, the 02nd May 2023. His Excellency Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname was the Chief Guest. His Excellency Dr. Amar Ramadhin, Minister of Public Health of the Republic of Suriname, Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Mr. Mahinder Jogi, Ms Niesha Jhakry and over 100 other guests attended the event. The Ambassador of India, H.E. Dr. S. Balachandran in his welcome address, spoke about India’s growth story and introduced the Indian companies.
The first presentation of the event was given by Dr. Umesh Menon, a Management Consultant on “Doing Business with India and investment opportunities (including for Overseas Citizens of India)”. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. Shachinder Reddy, CMD of GSR Group on opportunities in the Pharma sector with a brief introduction of his own group companies and two Indian companies -Kausikh Therapeutics (P) Ltd. & Lux Flavours Ltd. The third and the last presentation was given by Mr. Girish Bajaj about his company Bajaj Processpack Ltd. He talked about the vast opportunities available in Suriname for developing agriculture, horticulture and dairy sector by using the technologies available with his company. The Foreign Minister, the Ambassador and the three other speakers then fielded questions from the audience in a Q&A session. The Foreign Minister of Suriname, in his address as the Chief Guest of the event, talked about strengthening the bilateral trade between India and Suriname and urged Indian investors to look at Suriname as a gateway for the entire Caribbean and the Latin American region.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Acting Commercial representative in the Mission.
