(CAHII), which will take place today Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Georgetown, Guyana. This significant event will be held in person with potential live-streaming options available for wider participation. The theme of the conference is “Challenges Facing Caribbean Hindus and Proposed Solutions.” It will begin with plenary sessions, followed by a series of insightful panel discussions. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with leaders and community stakeholders in identifying and addressing the challenges experienced by Hindus in Guyana, Trinidad, Suriname, Canada, and the USA.

Conference Introduction

This is the first of a series of conferences with an aspirational goal of “Developing a framework for every Indo-Caribbean Hindu to have access to Hindu services regardless of where they live”.                          Hindu services include the performance of Sanskár’s (birth, education, marriage, death, etc.), observance of festivals (Holi, Diwáli, Shiv Rátri, Rám Navmi, Janam Asthmi, etc.), prayer at weekly Satsang, and community services (children, youth, senior programs and counselling support).

This first conference program is organized to review issues facing the Hindu community through social/economic, health, and religious panels. It will explore how the Hindu way of life can increase their susceptibility to problems, resulting in higher rates and more severe consequences than the general population. This framework will serve as the foundation to address problems facing Hindus living in the Caribbean and in the Indo-Caribbean diaspora.

Key deliverables of the conference include:

 – Advising Hindus on how to access the various secular resources in the region where they live.

– Collaborating with Hindu-based organizations across the Caribbean and the Indo-Caribbean diaspora to develop a Resource Kit which can be used by Hindus to augment the current services available by the various levels of regional governments and NGO organizations.

– Opportunities for conference delegates to network and share challenges and best practices with peers and subject-matter experts from across the Caribbean and the Indo-Caribbean diaspora.
